Lou Ludwig Success Tips: A Healthy Dose of Praise

A Healthy Dose of Praise

A Healthy Dose of Praise

“Sandwich every bit of criticism between two

heavy layers of praise.”

Mary Kay Ash 1918 – 2001, American Businesswoman,

Founder of Mary Kay Cosmetics

As I see it . . . . . . . .

A healthy dose of praise

It seems so easy to criticize . . . .  not so much so to praise.

Fact is things go wrong . . . . mistakes happens . . . . and our success journey can seem like a moving target.

So when something gets off track . . . . What’s the goal? Is it to criticize the person? Or is it to come up with a solution and correct the condition?

When goal is to criticize the person for the condition . . . . The thinking is off track . . . . and not focused on solutions which is likely to make things worse.

When something gets off track . . . . coach the person through the condition to correct the condition. With one of the key questions to ask the person is “if you got involved in the same condition in the future . . . . how would you handle it to create difference results?”

A healthy dose of praise will create more positive results . . . . then criticism.

Oh, love this one Lou. I tried to do that with my kiddos when they were young - sincere and genuine compliment first, an area where they might need a little work, followed by a genuine expression of how much I appreciated and loved them. They're all pretty cool adults, so think it worked.... :)

Oh yes Lou, praise can work wonders, and it's a good feeling to receive and to give it!

Nobody gets tired of hearing those words. We all should say these words more often and not be so critical.

Mary Kay was very inspiring. She did a lot of good for the people in Texas and throughout the world. She's someone I respect because she never seemed vain but always wanted women to feel confident and have that positive image.

With everybody that criticizes you, there is always one person or two people or 57 you might like what you do if you’re really sincere about it

Good morning, Lou... when I managed large staffs in the corporate world I quickly learned how important an "atta boy or atta girl" was to keeping people motivated. And it also takes so little to say thank you for a job well done. When you practice that, the times a criticism is needed, it's taken much better.

I enjoy giving praise, so this is an easy one for me to adhere to.  I feel that I am too critical at times as well, but I don't always outwardly display it, so that is at least good, but I am working on getting better with the internal thoughts, haha.

I agree, Lou, that praise is better than to criticize. Everyone loves to receive praise.

This is an excellent quote to share. I just posted in on Facebook.

I had a wise person tell me on dealing with my employees, you either praise them or fire them.
