Motivational Power Quote
The Art of Compromise
"A compromise is the art of dividing
a cake in such a way that everyone believes
that he has got the biggest piece."
Ludwig Erhard, Chancellor of West Germany 1963 - 1966
As I see it. . . . . . . .
The art of compromise
There is one consistent in our live and that one consistent is compromise.
We compromise at some level in our personal lives and in business almost on a daily basis and in every successful negotiation the art of compromise is unitized.
Compromise is not about winning and losing it's about finding a common ground for cooperation and gaining agreement.
Compromise may be needed when we are planning to go out to dinner or planning a vacation. There is a difference of option on where to have dinner or go on vacation. The parties have a choice and can argue about where to go and in the long run everyone ends up being unhappy. Or we can reach a compromise on the choice having everyone feeling ok about the decision and creating a win - win compromise.
In every negotiation there are elements that have to successfully be gapped to reach a successful out come in the negotiation.
A successful negotiation requires cooperation between the parties to find a common ground to successfully conclude the negotiation. It's also common to go through a series of compromises or concessions by the parties before the negotiations are successfully being complete.
Being able to find a common ground and compromise is finding a common ground in successful negotiations
The art of the compromise is helping to guild the parties through the negotiation and at the conclusion of the negotiation everyone feels that they came out the winner.
